About Model United Nations

Model United Nations known as MUN, is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy, formal sessions on current political, social and economic issues and the United Nations agenda. The participants role-play as diplomats representing a country or NGO in a simulated session of a committee of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, discuss, debate, consult, and then develop solutions to ongoing global issues.

About Pamir International Model United Nations

Afghan youth are rarely given equal opportunities to develop and improve their skills and spark a positive change. Although they have the potential to play an important role in the future of their communities, they are marginalized from important decision-making processes and they are lacking diplomacy, debating and lobbying skills.

Youth Thinkers’ Society pioneered Model UN conferences by organizing the first edition of Pamir International MUN for the very first time in Afghanistan for Afghan youth and provided them a platform to learn and practice international relations/policy, diplomacy, tolerance, negotiation, debating, critical thinking, and public speaking. PIMUN is organized annually in Kabul city and simulate various UN committees with new initiatives and new topics.

PIMUN 2019

Youth Thinkers’ Society successfully organized the 4th edition of Pamir International Model United Nations Conference from 29th – 31st August, 2019 at the Queen Palace, Bagh-e Babur, Kabul with the theme of “Role of Youth in achieving sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

Theme

LISTEN; SPEAK; RESOLVE

Listening is an important skill that allows us to receive, understand and evaluate information through our communications. On other hand, speaking allows us to form connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Hence, when connections are made, ideas and solutions are generated.

As delegate in a committee, we seek to interact with each other. This interaction is made effective through two key elements of listening and speaking that each one constitute half of this process. In MUN conferences, delegates practice these skills properly and that leads them to improve their ideas and come up with a good resolution that is the basic requirement of the MUNs. The theme Listen, Speak, Resolve is chosen because it covers MUN process in a smaller scale.
